Egg Paint

So way back in the day (like before year 1500) paint was made with egg yolk and called egg tempera. Today we made some of our own using some spices I had in the cupboard and some fun neon food coloring. I wanted to paint some eggs with egg so I did another few "blow out" eggs and we mixed up some egg and water with our colors.  Typically I think you just use the yolk but because of the blow out method the yolk gets mixed with the whites when it comes out and I didn't want to waste the eggs so if we, I mean when we do this again we will do straight egg yolk and water. I think it came out really pretty and I love the finish it has when it dries. I think I will be more prepared next time with more spices or diff juices that can make an array of colors. What we had on hand though worked great and was a learning experience for me and Biggs!

Faberge Eggs

Biggs made the most beautiful Faberge Eggs. I drilled a couple holes (1/16 drill bit) and got the "egg" out of the egg and let biggs go to town with glitter! The polka dot one was easy and fun, I used glue dots and let him sprinkle glitter. The other one we just painted in mod podge and he got to shakin! I will probably spray them with some sort of sealer just to keep the glitter on and protect the egg so we can have them out every year, and since the season has just begun I'm sure we will make a few more of these because they were so fun. Enjoy!

Spring!

Wow it's so nice to get back to our projects. We had taken a little break for a while to get prepared for the Bigg birthday party but now that things are back to normal we can get on with welcoming the spring season! We've got big plans for this spring and hopefully can share them all with you as we hop along in this time of new life and growth and CHOCOLATE (Yes it's all about the easter candy, yum)!
The last few days we have done a few things so I'm just going to put them all in this one blog. Biggs made a beautiful butterfly with his hand prints, a lovely spring flower from a paper plate, and today we made a nice little bird house/feeder.

For his flower we used a paper plate and the marble painting technique. I taped down the plate put some marbles with paint and let him try to figure out a method to get the paint on the plate. It's challenging because the plate is raised so he had a lot of fun trying different directions and speeds.

For our birdhouse/feeder I had an empty plastic container and cut a hole on two sides and left one side with a ledge and we added a little deck for the birds. To decorate we painted it with glue and put some tissue paper.

This is adorable! Biggs got his own camera for his birthday and he told me "mom! I have to get my camera and take a picture of my project!".
